The film denounces the tragic consequences of mass tourism, orchestrated by an Austrian group, in a small traditional fishermen village in the north-east of Brazil.
Today, this group is suing José Huerta with 8 charges, including a criminal one, while the film does not hold any defamatory intent.
It is clearly an attempt to exert pressure in order to prevent the film from being screened. Although Brazil is on the path of democratic consolidation, there is still much to be done, especially regarding the justice system: corruption may still exist, mainly in the north-east region.
José Huerta might have to pay damages and interest charges totalling € 60,000. In addition, the costs of the trial proceedings add up to € 6,000.
We are therefore engaged on this solidarity campaign to denounce these pressures, to preserve the freedom of speech, and to support the people of Parajuru in their struggle to protect their culture and environment.
You can support this campaign by purchasing the DVD of the film.
